Lufthansa Miles & More HON Circle is the structural top of the Lufthansa Group's elite ladder and one of the most exclusive published loyalty statuses in commercial aviation. At 6,000 HON Circle Points in a calendar year, earned only in Business and First Class, HON Circle is aspirational, reached by a small share of even the most loyal Lufthansa Group customers.

Chasing this status across other programmes too? Most frequent flyers hold status with more than one airline or hotel. See our guide to tracking and keeping elite status across every programme, then let Miles Mosaic forecast whether your booked trips will requalify you, with no loyalty password required.

The reading on HON Circle in 2026 is that it is recognition rather than transaction. Its 6,000 HON Circle Points take thirty long-haul Business Class segments, three times the ten that reach Senator, and all of them have to fall within a single calendar year. This guide covers what HON Circle delivers per the Miles & More HON Circle page, how the separate HON Circle Points counter works, and whether the tier earns its structural commitment.

Miles & More rules verified: 16 September 2026 against the programme's own status qualification, Points system and status validity pages, covering the qualification thresholds, the per-segment earning table and how long status lasts.

What HON Circle on Miles & More gives you

HON Circle earns no more award miles than Senator, or than Frequent Traveller. On tickets sold by Lufthansa Group airlines, Miles & More multiplies the airfare in euros by 4 for members without status and by 6 for all three status tiers, a 50% Executive Bonus, on flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and partners such as United. On Discover Airlines, Eurowings and Luxair the status factor is 5, a 25% bonus. The difference between the tiers is concentrated in service, lounge access, and the kind of personal recognition that compounds across years of stays at the same hubs.

The headline benefits at HON Circle are access to the Lufthansa First Class Lounges, the SWISS First Lounges, Austrian Airlines' HON Circle Lounge and the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, a personal HON Circle Service with 24-hour support in selected markets, and a chauffeur and transfer service between the terminal and the aircraft at Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, Geneva and Warsaw that comes with the status itself, whatever cabin is booked.

The First Class Lounge experience is genuinely distinct from the Senator Lounge experience: quieter and smaller, with restaurant-style dining and a personal assistant who takes care of the travel formalities. For travellers who spend significant time at Group hubs on long-haul connections, a First Class Lounge is meaningfully better than the Senator and Business Lounges elsewhere in the Lufthansa Group network.

HON Circle also carries the Senator basics: Star Alliance Gold status, Senator and Business Lounge access, an increased free baggage allowance on many airlines, and priority boarding. It adds perks of its own, all listed on the Miles & More HON Circle page: free rebooking onto an earlier flight on the same day on Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS flights within Europe, when the booked class has a seat and the route is the same; the highest waitlist priority on most Lufthansa Group airlines and on LOT Polish Airlines; and a booking guarantee on fully booked flights that runs to 24 hours before departure, against 48 hours for Senators.

How to qualify for HON Circle

HON Circle requires at least 6,000 HON Circle Points in a calendar year. The structural detail that distinguishes it from every lower Miles & More tier is the currency, not the calendar: Frequent Traveller and Senator need both Points and Qualifying Points, while HON Circle needs HON Circle Points, with no Points or Qualifying Points requirement at all. All three tiers share the same qualification period, 1 January to 31 December.

HON Circle Points are awarded only for Business and First Class flights operated by the Lufthansa Group and its co-issuing partners, at the same per-segment rates as Points: 40 for a continental Business or First segment, 200 for an intercontinental Business segment and 400 for an intercontinental First segment, whatever the distance. Depending on the airline, some flight numbers and booking classes earn nothing, so the examples on this page assume eligible fares. A nonstop long-haul round-trip therefore earns 400 HON Circle Points in Business and 800 in First. Economy and Premium Economy earn none, and Star Alliance airlines outside the co-issuing group earn none in any cabin, so the practical bar is thirty long-haul Business segments, fifteen round-trips, or fifteen First Class segments in one calendar year.

Because the count restarts every January, HON Circle Members requalify one calendar year at a time. A member who earns 6,400 HON Circle Points in 2026 holds the tier until the end of February 2028, but a quieter 2027 that ends on 5,000 HON Circle Points does not renew it, however strong 2026 was: the two years are not added together. eVouchers can close a gap in two ways: exchanged within the year, each is worth 50 HON Circle Points, with no annual limit on exchanges; used to carry points over, each moves 100 HON Circle Points into the next year, up to four per transaction and only from points earned after the member's status renewal.

Status starts as soon as it is achieved and runs to the end of February the year after next, the same rule that governs Frequent Traveller and Senator, so HON Circle earned at any point in 2026 is valid until the end of February 2028.

HON Circle counts 6,000 HON Circle Points rather than Points, awarded only for Business and First on flights operated by the Lufthansa Group and co-issuing Miles & More airline partners

The First Class Terminal at Frankfurt: HON Circle's signature benefit

The Lufthansa First Class Terminal at Frankfurt is the single most distinctive benefit anywhere in commercial aviation loyalty and the operational headline of HON Circle status. The facility is a free-standing building separate from the main passenger terminals, connected by a dedicated road and reached by car drop-off, that handles check-in, security, immigration, lounge, and aircraft transfer in a single contained environment. Travellers entering through the main terminal cannot access it; the entry path is the dedicated First Class Terminal driveway.

Access at the First Class Terminal is reserved for two groups: passengers with a confirmed First Class flight on a Lufthansa Group airline that day, and HON Circle Members flying that day on Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines or SWISS. Either can bring up to two companions or children under 18, each holding a boarding pass for the same flight. Senators booked in Business class do not get access, even when transiting Frankfurt on the same itinerary. The structural exclusion is precisely the point of the facility, it exists to deliver an in-airport experience that no other Lufthansa Group tier can match, and HON Circle is the only loyalty pathway to that experience without a First Class ticket.

The First Class Terminal experience itself is built around the personal-assistant role. On arrival at the driveway, an assistant takes documents, completes check-in, walks the passenger through security and immigration without queue, and drops the passenger into the lounge. The lounge has shower rooms and a bathtub, a restaurant with dishes prepared by its own chefs, a cigar lounge, quiet rooms with daybeds, and a chauffeur who drives passengers across the apron to the aircraft in a van or an exclusive limousine. The whole experience is meaningfully different from any other premium lounge in the alliance, it is the only commercial-aviation facility that approaches what private aviation feels like.

Munich has no free-standing First Class Terminal. Its two First Class Lounges sit in Terminal 2 and in the Terminal 2 satellite, open to First Class passengers and HON Circle Members, and the chauffeur service there drives HON Circle Members from the lounge to aircraft parked away from the gate, and collects them from the aircraft when an arriving flight parks away from the gate.

HON Circle Points versus Qualifying Points

One of the most confusing aspects of Miles & More for travellers approaching the top tier is that the 2024 system restructure created a separate HON Circle Points counter distinct from the Points and Qualifying Points used for Frequent Traveller and Senator. HON Circle Points accumulate only on Business or First Class flights operated by Lufthansa Group airlines and the co-issuing partners, a list that runs beyond Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and Brussels Airlines to ITA Airways, LOT Polish Airlines, Croatia Airlines and Luxair. They never credit in Economy or Premium Economy, and they never credit on Star Alliance carriers outside that list, which earn ordinary Points only. The per-segment rates match Points exactly, so the difference lies entirely in which flights earn them.

The counter resets to zero every 1 January, apart from any points carried over with eVouchers, so the relevant question for a HON Circle Member is the simple one: will this calendar year's Business and First Class flying on those airlines reach 6,000 HON Circle Points by 31 December? For travellers approaching HON Circle for the first time, the path is heavy long-haul Business and First Class flying on Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian or Brussels Airlines, compressed into a single calendar year.

How HON Circle compares to the tiers around it

Senator is counted in a different currency, 2,000 Points and 1,000 Qualifying Points in a calendar year, so the gap to HON Circle is best measured in flights: ten long-haul Business segments on Lufthansa Group airlines reach Senator and thirty reach HON Circle, and the benefit gap is concentrated in personal service rather than operational features. Senator gets Star Alliance Gold lounge access across the alliance and Senator Lounges at Group hubs, and earns exactly the same award-mile bonus as HON Circle. HON Circle adds the First Class Lounges and the First Class Terminal, the personal HON Circle Service, the chauffeur service, and the most premium recognition Lufthansa Group offers.

The Senator-to-HON Circle gap is the largest step anywhere in the Miles & More ladder: twenty more long-haul Business segments on top of the ten that reach Senator, all in a premium cabin, all on Lufthansa Group or co-issuing partner flights and all within the same calendar year. The benefit step is meaningful but concentrated in service rather than in additional operational privileges. For travellers whose flying on those airlines naturally reaches fifteen long-haul Business round-trips a year, the HON Circle path becomes the structural goal; for travellers nearer five, Senator captures most of what matters.

There is no tier above HON Circle in the published Miles & More framework. HON Circle Member is simply the tier's full name, and the programme's published qualification rules stop at 6,000 HON Circle Points.

How to actually hit HON Circle

The HON Circle path is built on structural long-haul First or Business Class flying on Lufthansa Group airlines. The HON Circle Points table rewards First Class heavily, at 400 per intercontinental segment against 200 in Business, so the realistic HON candidate is either a very frequent long-haul Business traveller or a regular First Class one.

A worked example shows how the numbers move. Take a Munich-based managing partner at a global firm whose role requires a nonstop long-haul round-trip in Lufthansa First Class every month for client work: twelve round-trips are 24 segments at 400 each, or 9,600 HON Circle Points, which clears 6,000 on its own. Add eight nonstop Business Class round-trips to Asia on Lufthansa or SWISS, 16 segments at 200 each, and the year closes on 12,800 HON Circle Points, more than double the threshold. The First Class trips alone pass 6,000 in the eighth month, and the Asia trips bring that forward.

Partner flying is where the count goes wrong. Put those eight Asia round-trips on ANA or Singapore Airlines instead, both Star Alliance members outside the co-issuing group, and they earn ordinary Points but no HON Circle Points: the year closes on 9,600 HON Circle Points rather than 12,800, and the 3,200 Points from those flights count for nothing towards the tier. A traveller whose premium flying is spread across the alliance can hold a large Points balance and still be far from HON Circle.

HON Circle status matches are essentially not offered. The tier is reserved for genuinely qualified Lufthansa Group customers, and the qualification is sufficiently demanding that the programme does not need to match competitors into the tier. The path is paid First and Business Class flying on Lufthansa Group and co-issuing partner airlines, within one calendar year.

What changed in 2026 and what trips people up

Three HON Circle surprises catch returning Miles & More members. The first is the calendar. Members who remember the old two-year HON Circle count sometimes still plan across two years, but since 1 January 2024 the qualification period has been one calendar year: 6,000 HON Circle Points between 1 January and 31 December, with nothing from the previous year counting unless it was carried over with eVouchers. A strong 2025 does nothing for a HON Circle qualification in 2026.

The second is the lounge map. At Frankfurt and Munich, the Lufthansa facilities HON Circle Members use are First Class Lounges, not rooms called HON Circle Lounges: that name appears at Vienna, on Austrian Airlines' lounges, and SWISS calls its equivalent the First Lounge, at Zurich and Geneva. Lufthansa lists these lounges airport by airport. At an airport without one, a HON Circle Member falls back to Senator Lounge access, which is still excellent but not the First Class experience.

The third is the chauffeur service, which is more generous than its reputation. It comes with HON Circle status and needs no First Class ticket: Miles & More's page for the service sets no cabin requirement, only the airport (Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, Geneva or Warsaw) and the operating airline, and it extends the service to travel companions on the same flight. What it does not do is drive every passenger to every gate. Outside the Frankfurt First Class Terminal, it mainly covers aircraft parked away from the gate and connections squeezed by a late arrival, and at Zurich it does not currently meet arriving flights.

HON Circle versus other Star Alliance top-tier statuses

HON Circle's commercial-aviation peers are a small set: United Premier 1K and Global Services, Air Canada Aeroplan Super Elite, Singapore KrisFlyer Solitaire PPS Club, Turkish Miles&Smiles Elite Plus at the highest revenue tiers, and ANA Diamond. Each carries similar Star Gold operational benefits, alliance lounge access, priority handling, generous mile bonuses, and each has structural differences that matter for the right candidate.

  • United Global Services is invitation-only and structurally similar to HON Circle in its dedicated-contact model, but the published path (Premier 1K with substantial spend) requires US domestic flying volume that European candidates rarely match. The relevant comparison is operational rather than aspirational; the two statuses appeal to different geographies.
  • Air Canada Aeroplan Super Elite requires 125,000 Status Qualifying Credits in a calendar year, and neither partner earning nor Aeroplan credit card spend can supply more than a fifth of that: Star Alliance flights ticketed by other airlines count towards a 25,000-credit annual cap shared with Aeroplan's other partners, and cards towards a separate 25,000 cap, while Star Alliance flights ticketed by Air Canada are not capped. The benefit set is comparable to other Star Alliance Gold tiers with some additional perks; it does not match HON Circle's First Class Terminal access.
  • Singapore KrisFlyer PPS Club / Solitaire requires Singapore Airlines Business or First flying with specific PPS Value thresholds. Solitaire delivers dedicated facilities at Changi and personal-contact relationships that approach HON Circle in service quality, but reachable only by Singapore-routed long-haul Business flyers.
  • ANA Diamond requires 100,000 Premium Points with ANA flying weighted heavily. Diamond delivers the same Star Alliance Gold benefits with some additional ANA perks; not the same tier as HON Circle in operational distinctiveness.

The structural reading is that HON Circle is meaningfully distinct from other Star Alliance top tiers because of the First Class Terminal at Frankfurt, a facility that has no counterpart anywhere in the alliance, and that genuinely changes the at-airport experience in ways that other top-tier statuses can approximate but not replicate. For travellers whose Lufthansa Group flying naturally produces the volume, HON Circle is structurally without peer.

The bottom line on HON Circle

HON Circle is the Miles & More tier where genuine Lufthansa Group customers receive the most premium recognition in the programme. The First Class Lounges and Terminal, the personal HON Circle Service, and the chauffeur service between terminal and aircraft combine into an experience that is meaningfully better than Senator. The threshold of 6,000 HON Circle Points is genuinely demanding to reach, most Lufthansa Group customers never get there, and the whole commitment has to land within one calendar year. For travellers whose long-haul Business and First Class flying on Lufthansa Group airlines naturally produces the volume, HON Circle is the right ceiling; for travellers flying closer to five long-haul Business round-trips a year, Senator captures most of what matters. Frequently asked questions

How long does Miles & More HON Circle status last?
HON Circle status starts as soon as you qualify and runs to the end of February the year after next, the same rule Miles & More applies to Frequent Traveller and Senator. Earn 6,000 HON Circle Points in 2026 and HON Circle remains active until the end of February 2028. Requalification works one calendar year at a time: the count starts again each January, apart from any points a HON Circle Member carries over with eVouchers.
Does HON Circle still count two years of flying?
No. HON Circle is counted within one calendar year, the same qualification period Miles & More uses for Frequent Traveller and Senator, and it has been since the status-mile model ended on 1 January 2024. HON Circle Points earned in 2025 do nothing for a 2026 qualification unless a HON Circle Member carried them over with eVouchers, each of which moves 100 HON Circle Points into the next year.
Is there a tier above HON Circle?
Not in the published Miles & More framework. HON Circle Member is simply the full name of the top tier, and the programme's published qualification rules stop at 6,000 HON Circle Points, above Senator and Frequent Traveller.
Are HON Circle Lounges available at every Lufthansa Group hub?
No, and at Frankfurt and Munich the lounge is not called a HON Circle Lounge at all. Miles & More gives HON Circle Members the Lufthansa First Class Lounges, the SWISS First Lounges, Austrian Airlines' HON Circle Lounge and the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt. Lufthansa lists its First Class Lounges at Frankfurt and Munich, SWISS First Lounges at Zurich and Geneva, and HON Circle Lounges at Vienna. At an airport without one of these, a HON Circle Member uses the Senator or Star Alliance Gold lounges instead.
